Documents Required for Bike Ownership Transfer

  1. Registration Certificate (RC) book: Registration Certificate serves as proof of bike registration and is thus an essential document. It is also included in the list of documents that must be submitted to the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) when transferring ownership. It is also important to see all the details that exist in the RC, such as the owner name, VIN, engine type, etc. Make sure it’s genuine against your bike’s specs. Also, if you are renting a bicycle, be sure to get a bank customs certificate and a stamp on  Form 35 to confirm the full repayment of the  loan.
  2. Bicycle insurance certificate : The insurance policy is another important document required to transfer ownership of the bicycle. Under the updated car regulations, all vehicles travelling on Indian roads must have an insurance policy. Without this certificate, the vehicle will not be registered with the RTO. Therefore, be sure to get this certificate from the seller before completing your bike purchase. When this policy expires, you can choose to renew the policy or buy a new one for motorcycles.
  3. Controlled Contamination (PuC) Certificate : Another legal document that needs to be verified and obtained is a pollution control certificate. When buying a used bike, it is essential to verify the validity of the PUC certificate. This also confirms whether this motorcycle has passed the emission test and can be evaluated appropriately. Check the certificate serial number, license plate, test score, and certificate expiration date to verify its validity. The PUC certificate must be presented by the bicycle owner at the request of the competent authority during the routine inspection.
  4. Sales Receipt : You need to additionally acquire income receipt of the used motorcycle while you buy it. It need to deliver the supplier`s signature.  Many times, as a substitute of buying it from the car owner, one does so from a 3rd party. In that case, acquiring a income receipt acquires more significance because it serves as a documented evidence of motorbike buy from a non-public supplier or a dealership. The signatures of both the buyer and seller on the purchase receipt confirm the completion of the sale by mutual agreement. This receipt also includes details of additional charges and taxes paid during the transfer of ownership of the bicycle.
  5. Automobile tax certificate : Before you can buy a used bicycle, you need to get a vehicle tax certificate from the previous owner. This certificate must also be submitted to the RTO when initiating a transfer of ownership of the bicycle. This is an annual or one-time payment to the RTO and serves as proof of timely tax payments.
