Improving concentration and memory in kids is one of the most sought after focus areas for all parents. Kids are the powerhouse of energy and have unlimited potential. But what really matters is that as parents and teachers, how effectively are we able to guide them in the right direction so that they are enabled to unleash their full potential and shape their life in a positive way.
Online Abacus classes are a great means to achieve this very objective with great precision and wonderful results. Let us do a little bit of deep diving here.
What is Abacus and what are its basic benefits
Most people would have heard that the Abacus course teaches kids to do the arithmetic calculations mentally and in a superfast manner, without using a paper and a pen. This is indeed true, but it’s not the only truth. Abacus offers much wider benefits for kids, which we will review in this article later. But coming back, the most basic benefit of Abacus are the following
- The superfast calculation speed (at least 5x faster than the traditional way taught in schools)
- Ability to do these arithmetic calculations without using a paper or a pen, just via visualization (which is the underlying secret of Abacus success).
You would probably have seen in the videos, or even in real life that kids are able to solve arithmetic calculations (including complex addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) on their fingertips with ease. In case you haven’t seen this, then you can just visit the video gallery of Mathcruise Abacus academy (where my son is enrolled into online Abacus classes for kids). In these short videos, kids as young as 5-6 years are doing addition and multiplication just mentally, and with great ease.
Look at some of the following example questions that these kids can easily do with out calculator.

How does Abacus course help in brain development?
Remember that humans have two brains left and right, but mostly we all have left brain activated since all our logical actions and decision making (like walking, eating or any action that we do) are controlled by the left brain. The right brain gets stimulated mostly by creative things like music or dance or painting, and very few kids engage in these activities. This is where Abacus helps. The basic Abacus fundamentals teaches brain exercises to children, especially the one where he is taught to read the instructions from both left and right brain and process them simultaneously (instead of in a linear way).
When kids do the arithmetic calculations with amazing superfast speed and that too via visualization at their fingertips, it sounds so easy when we watch the video. But behind the scenes a lot of hard work, practice and patience goes into the sausage making.
- The first step for kids when they enroll into online Abacus classes for kids is to learn the Abacus rules and practice them on the physical Abacus tool. The Abacus tool looks like the following and may have rods ranging from 9 to 13 to 17.
A 17 rod Abacus tool

A 13 rod Abacus tool

- Then gradually the kids are taught the process of Visualization where they are asked to leave the physical tool, and form a picture of the tool in their mind. Then for every calculation step they do the beads movement just by moving the finger in the air (sometimes with both hands) on that imaginary abacus tool, and replace that picture in their mind after every step.
- In both the above stages, where the child is using the Abacus tool and then when he is doing without the tool, he is taught to use both hands simultaneously to gain more speed. Which means that practically he is developing the ability to process the instruction of both the left and right brain. With a lot of practice and guidance under a professional Abacus trainer, he becomes more and more efficient and is able to use both his hands for beads movement at such a fast speed that it seems unbelievable to parents in the first place.
Does Abacus really improve Concentration & Memory
Yes of-course. And this has been accepted by modern science also.
- As we already saw above, Abacus tremendously helps in brain development which is very crucial since the right brain gets dormant after the age of 15 years. So it is strongly recommended to put your child into Abacus classes at the right time (anytime between 5 to 15 years), the sooner the better. Just imagine the boost he will get, its like a train running with a double engine.
- The basic teaching methodology of Abacus needs the child to carefully listen to the question, process that on the physical Abacus tool or just in his mind (if he is doing it via visualization), act fast and be ready for the next number. This activity needs to be done repeatedly over many months, and with every passing day as the child practices more and more, he develops a strong focus and concentration.
- You must have heard about the concept of flip reading where the person looks at a page and he is able to retain the content of that page in his mind for a long time. Even the abacus trained kids can do the same effectively, in advanced stages.
Where to find best online Abacus classes Delhi

Well, I can share my recommendation, but every parent should make their own independent choice in this matter. There are numerous Abacus classes in Delhi as well as across other cities today, but the key is to find a good trainer rather than focusing only on a bigger brand. The trainer should be able to form a bond with the child, motivate them, and engage them in positive and effective learning.I enrolled my son with Mathcruise and I am happy to say that I got all these traits in their chief trainer.
My son is always excited to attend his classes, which solves half of my worries since I never have to push him for the classes. They also have wonderful Google reviews as listed on their web portal, and I know many students who have completed the full Abacus course with them (which spans roughly over 2 years) and those kids are masters in arithmetic calculations and are bursting with confidence when you interact with them.
In the end, I would like to wish you happy Abacus learning and congratulate you for making the right decision for your child.
